UniFi Protect turns an Android phone into a remote viewing and review panel for compatible Protect cameras. Users can open low-latency livestreams, move between camera feeds, and scrub a Timelapse timeline to find activity without watching every minute in sequence. Playback controls make it easier to revisit doors, driveways, work areas, or other monitored spaces when an incident needs attention.
Recent Detections and dashboard spotlights bring notable events closer to the main workflow. Version 3.6.0 also improves playback stability, so routine checks and longer review sessions are easier to manage from a phone. The experience still depends on a reachable UniFi Console and camera setup, but it gives system owners a focused way to examine footage away from the main browser interface.
Smart Detections and Targeted Alerts
Detection tools help users narrow a large recording history to events that matter. Depending on camera compatibility and configuration, Protect can classify people, vehicles, faces, license plates, and certain audio or environmental events. Motion, Smart Detection, exclusion, and privacy zones let administrators define which parts of a camera view should create alerts, be ignored, or stay outside recorded footage.
Notifications can be personalized around selected detections, while the dashboard gathers recent activity for quicker review. Version 3.6.0 adds Vehicle Auto Tracking for compatible PTZ cameras and spotlights in Recent Detections. These controls are useful for homes, storefronts, parking areas, and offices where reducing false alarms is as important as seeing an event quickly.
Console Discovery and Device Management
Users can sign in with a UI Account to reach authorized Protect sites, or look for local consoles when working on the same network. Device adoption and management bring camera setup, system access, and site switching into the mobile workflow. Bluetooth-based discovery can help the app locate nearby UniFi OS consoles and devices during setup, with a clear option to skip that step when local discovery is unnecessary.
Fabrics support in version 3.6.0 helps administrators work across grouped environments, while the Devices area provides a path to camera settings and operational controls. The app suits both a single-home console and larger commercial deployments, although available actions depend on the account role, console software, camera model, and network reachability.
Clip Downloads and Privacy Controls
Protect keeps recordings on the user's UniFi hardware by default, avoiding a cloud-only camera workflow. From mobile playback, users can download localized recordings or export a selected clip for immediate sharing. This is useful when saving an event for a property manager, security review, support case, or personal archive without moving the entire recording history.
Privacy and detection zones offer additional control over what a camera records and which regions produce events. Two-way audio is available with compatible cameras, and notification settings help users decide how alerts appear on Android. Together, local storage, selective exports, and configurable alerts give system owners practical control over footage while keeping routine monitoring available from a phone.
