VirusTotal Scan Guide
VirusTotal Scan Guide
VirusTotal is a commonly used file safety reference service that summarizes detection results from multiple security engines for the same file. APKBA displays VirusTotal scan records on some download pages so users can see more safety signals.
VirusTotal scan results are reference information, not an absolute safety guarantee for an APK.
How to Read Scan Results
APKBA pages may show scan summaries in the format of “detected / total engines”. This number usually indicates how many security engines flagged the scanned file at the recorded time and how many engines participated in the scan.
For example, a “no detection” result means that, in that scan record, the available detection engines did not flag the file. However, this does not mean the file is permanently safe, nor does it mean there is no risk on every device, in every region, or in every usage scenario.
What APKBA Records
To make scan conclusions easier to verify, APKBA pages should record the scan target, scan time, detection count, and report link whenever possible. Users can open the report link to view more detailed detection information.
Scan Target
The scan target should correspond to the file offered on the page. If the file version, size, or SHA-256 differs, the scan result should not be applied directly.
Scan Time
Security engine rules change, and app versions change as well. That is why scan time matters. Older scan results may not reflect the current detection status, so pages should display the verification time whenever possible.
Report Link
The report link helps users view engine names, detection details, and supporting information. If the report is unavailable or the result changes, users should rely on the currently visible report and combine it with other page evidence.
False Positives and False Negatives
Security scans can produce false positives and false negatives. A false positive means a normal file is marked as suspicious; a false negative means a risky file is not detected.
For this reason, APKBA does not rely on scan results alone. A more reliable approach is to review scan records together with SHA-256, installation tests, permission prompts, app source, and user feedback.
If Scan Results Change
If the scan summary, scan time, or file details on an APKBA page look outdated or inconsistent with the linked report, you can contact us at legal@apkba.com. Please include the page URL, report link, screenshots if available, and a brief description of what you noticed.
The editorial team will update the page based on verifiable materials and add risk prompts or recheck the download target when necessary.
