Remote Access from an Android Device
Chrome Remote Desktop turns an Android phone or tablet into a way to reach a configured computer when you are away from your desk. After setup on Windows, macOS, or Linux, open Remote Access, choose a listed machine, enter its PIN, and continue to the desktop. This helps you check a document, run a program, or pick up a task without carrying the computer.
The mobile interface keeps the entry point clear: Remote Access presents the computer list, while setup guidance points to the Chrome Remote Desktop website and desktop software. A computer that is offline or unavailable can be distinguished from one ready to connect, helping explain why a session may not start. It suits home, office, and travel use.
Screen Sharing and Remote Support
Remote Support adds a separate path for helping another person rather than managing only your own machines. From the service's support area, a host can generate a one-time access code and share it with the helper. Once the other person enters the code and the host approves the session, the helper can work with the computer's desktop, applications, and files.
That flow is useful for troubleshooting, guided assistance, and short collaborative sessions where the host wants to decide when access begins and ends. A Stop Sharing control closes the session, and the temporary code is not meant to become a permanent credential. The Android app's navigation keeps Remote Access and Remote Support as distinct destinations, so users can choose the right workflow before connecting.
Virtual Trackpad and Touch Controls
Remote sessions are designed around touch rather than a physical mouse. Trackpad mode lets you move the pointer with a swipe, tap to click, use two fingers for right-click and scrolling, and pinch to zoom the remote desktop. Press-and-hold dragging supports selecting or moving items, making ordinary desktop tasks possible on a phone or tablet.
For Windows hosts, the session menu can offer direct touch and two-finger or three-finger pan-and-zoom modes. Mac and Linux sessions stay with trackpad-style control when touch input is not available. These options let users balance precise pointer work with a more direct touch feel, which is helpful when opening apps, reviewing files, or navigating a remote desktop on a smaller screen.
Computer Setup and Session Management
Setting up a computer is part of the product's main workflow. On the computer, visit the Chrome Remote Desktop access page, download the desktop component, and follow the prompts; the Android interface then acts as the access point. The navigation drawer also exposes Remote Access, Remote Support, and SSH setup.
Once a computer is listed, choose a machine, delete an entry you no longer need, or disconnect a session when finished. An internet connection is required to share or access a computer, and managed accounts or work or school networks can impose controls. It is best suited to planned, connected remote work rather than offline access.
