Pan around an area, use the location control, and open a marker to focus on a corridor or incident instead of scanning separate pages.
The map toolbar and bottom controls keep common actions close: refresh the view, recenter the map, open alert details, save a favorite, or change map layers. Camera imagery, travel-time context, and a legend for clear-to-slow traffic and low-to-closure alerts make the map useful for commute planning, road trips, and checking a route after conditions change.
Traffic Alerts and Traveler Information
Traffic Alerts turns active road information into readable cards instead of leaving every incident as a map symbol. The area view groups construction, ramp closures, and other notices with route names, timing, and practical descriptions, while a statewide and highest-impact view helps users widen the search when a trip crosses county lines.
Traveler Information adds a second layer for planning: travel times, express lanes, news releases, commercial-vehicle restrictions, and a map legend are arranged as clear entries. Together, these screens help commuters compare a warning with the broader travel context and decide whether to leave earlier, change a route, or check a restriction before driving.
Ferries, Passes, Borders, and Regional Travel
WSDOT keeps several travel modes in one navigation drawer for trips that involve more than highway traffic. Ferry schedules and bulletins, real-time vessel information, mountain pass conditions, bridge alerts, toll rates, Canadian border waits, and Amtrak Cascades schedules each have a dedicated entry, so a traveler can move from road conditions to a crossing or rail plan without changing apps.
This collection is especially useful for regional journeys through Washington, where a route may combine highways, ferries, passes, and international crossings. Open the relevant section before departure, compare the current notice or wait information with the planned route, and keep the details close when conditions or service timing may affect the trip.
Favorites, Notifications, and Display Choices
Favorites, notifications, and display controls make WSDOT more useful for repeat travel checks. The menu provides a Favorites area and a Notifications entry, while Settings lets users choose a theme, adjust display order, and decide whether traffic camera images appear in their preferred views. These controls keep the most relevant information easier to reach.
A commuter can save a familiar corridor, review alerts for bridges, ferries, traffic, or a mountain pass, and tune the map presentation for a quick glance. Push alert choices can be managed separately from the in-app display controls, so users can decide which travel notices deserve attention without changing the way the map itself is presented.
