USB Receiver Setup for Android Auto
Headunit Reloaded can turn an Android tablet or other Android-powered unit into a receiver for Android Auto over a USB connection. Plug the phone into the display, use an OTG cable when the receiving device is a tablet, and select HUR as the default handler when Android asks which app should open the connected USB device. This suits fixed dashboard tablets and compatible aftermarket head units.
On Android 7.0 and newer, the connection may need one extra step from the notification shade: choose the attached USB device before launching the receiver. Once the link is recognized, Android Auto can present its navigation, media, messaging, and calling interface on the larger screen. The USB route is a practical starting point when a cable is convenient or wireless discovery is unavailable.
Wireless Links with Wi-Fi Launcher
Wireless mode is designed for drivers who want Android Auto without keeping a cable between the phone and display. The companion WiFi Launcher can select the vehicle's Bluetooth connection so HUR starts automatically, while its hotspot option lets the car unit and phone share a chosen network. The hotspot and client roles can be reversed, giving installations more than one connection layout.
The HUR home screen separates Wireless and Dev Wireless, making it easier to choose a route before troubleshooting. The app also offers native wireless connections on supported phones, so hardware and Android Auto behavior still shape the result. For a compatible setup, this mode is useful in dashboards where the phone stays with the driver and the receiving screen remains mounted in the vehicle.
Self Mode and Phone-Based Projection
Self Mode covers a different setup: Android Auto and HUR run on the same Android device. After Android Auto is installed, users can open HUR and choose Self Mode to use the phone or tablet as both the software host and the receiver display. This is useful for experiments, spare tablets, or dashboards that do not have a separate phone-to-head-unit pairing path.
The app's Phone Mode and Self Mode guidance helps users choose the right route for a call-friendly dashboard experience, while Android Auto supplies the familiar navigation, media, messaging, and assistant surfaces. Because the same device handles both sides, this approach is especially useful for testing a spare phone or tablet, building a compact dashboard, or exploring Android Auto features without a separate receiver.
Settings, Compatibility, and Troubleshooting
Headunit Reloaded keeps connection choices on a compact home screen with Settings and Help & Support below the four launch cards. The settings area is the place to adjust behavior for a particular unit, while Help & Support points toward setup guidance when a link does not start as expected. An explicit Exit Application control also makes it easy to leave the receiver cleanly.
The app is aimed at Android-powered head units from brands and boards such as Joying, Eonon, Grom VLine, Xtrons, PX5/PX3, A-Sure, RK3188, RK3066, and Avin. If a display stays black, the practical troubleshooting path is to check the unit's video-playback setting and try software decoding in HUR. That combination gives advanced users a clear way to tune compatibility instead of treating every connection problem as the same.
