DuckStation turns an Android phone or tablet into a configurable PlayStation 1 emulator. The setup wizard lets users choose the interface language and theme, import a PS1 or PS2 BIOS dumped from their own console, and finish configuration before opening the library. Region entries for NTSC-J, NTSC-U/C, and PAL help keep BIOS selection organized.
After setup, users can add a dedicated game directory and let the library scan supported files. The main screen provides All Games, Discs, Playlists, Executables, and PSF/Audio views, so collections can be separated by purpose. Disc Images, Playlists, and Multi-Disc Games
Disc-image flexibility makes DuckStation useful for collections built from different dumping tools and storage habits. The Android library accepts cue sheets, ISO or IMG single-track images, ECM, MDS, CHD, and unencrypted PBP files. BIN games need a matching CUE sheet, which preserves track layout and helps the emulator start them correctly.
Navigation tools keep larger libraries manageable. Users can sort titles by name, recently played, total play time, serial, or size, switch between list and grid views, and keep multi-disc releases together. Playlists, direct file launch, executable loading, and PSF audio access provide alternate ways to reach content without forcing every file into the same library view.
Rendering, Save States, and Performance Controls
DuckStation includes rendering controls designed to improve PS1 presentation without hiding the original game structure. Hardware acceleration, upscaling, texture filtering, true-color output, PGXP geometry correction, post-processing shaders, and optional widescreen rendering let users adjust clarity and visual stability for different games and devices.
Performance and continuity tools add practical value during longer sessions. Save states, rewind, runahead, fast boot, CPU overclocking, and per-game settings can shorten repeated setup or smooth selected titles, while Save State On Exit can resume from the last point after closing. These options work best when adjusted gradually because more demanding enhancements can reduce performance or introduce compatibility issues on weaker Android hardware.
Controller Mapping and Per-Game Profiles
Controller Settings gives mobile players a clear place to map physical gamepads and adjust virtual PlayStation inputs. DuckStation supports digital and analog controllers, vibration forwarding, controller presets, and specialized devices such as NeGcon or light-gun layouts where the host setup allows them. Per-game mappings help titles with unusual control schemes avoid changing the global profile.
App Settings also centralizes interface, system, graphics, audio, memory card, and data-transfer choices. Players can change screen orientation, display alignment, language, theme, and exit-state behavior, then keep separate profiles for games that need different rendering or input values. This level of control is most useful for users who want a portable library with consistent defaults plus title-specific tuning.
