Build a Personal Dreamcast and Arcade Library
Flycast starts with a library workflow rather than a bundled catalog. Add a game folder, let the app rescan content, and use the Games view to keep compatible Dreamcast, Naomi, Naomi 2, Atomiswave, and System SP titles in one place. It can also work with free homebrew releases, while commercial games remain the user's responsibility to supply.
The empty-library view keeps the next action visible, and the content picker separates Personal and Work storage before a folder is chosen. Once titles are available, box-art and game-list options make browsing more recognizable than opening files one by one. This setup suits players who maintain several owned discs, images, or homebrew projects and want a repeatable launch path.
Shape Graphics for HD and Widescreen Play
Flycast is designed for users who want more control than a one-click emulator. Video settings expose OpenGL and Vulkan choices, transparent-sorting modes, internal resolution, integer scaling, linear interpolation, VSync, and a dark interface theme. These options let a player trade visual accuracy, smooth motion, and device performance instead of accepting a fixed preset.
The v2.6 release adds per-pixel rendering with OpenGL ES on mobile, addresses a major Mali GPU issue in that mode, and adds integer scaling and output-filter choices. High-definition, widescreen presentation and custom texture packs extend the visual side for supported games, while the settings layout makes adjustments available before or between sessions. The result is a flexible fit for phones with different graphics hardware.
Tune Controls, Sound, and Connected Play
Play feel depends on more than rendering, so Flycast groups controller, audio, and network tools alongside the game library. The emulator exposes a dedicated controls area for mapping input devices, audio options for playback behavior, and network choices including disabled mode, GGPO, Naomi, and Battle Cable. Users can keep a simple offline setup or explore connected play when a compatible title and network arrangement are available.
The v2.6 feature set adds a match-code server for Battle Cable games and online support for Outtrigger and Power Smash. These controls are useful for players moving between touch input, gamepads, arcade peripherals, and multiplayer experiments.
Keep Emulator Files and Progress Manageable
Flycast also provides maintenance tools that keep a retro collection comfortable over time. General settings expose a home folder, import and export actions, content rescanning, box-art handling, a file picker choice, and optional automatic state controls. The emulator can hide legacy Naomi ROMs, choose a UI scale or theme, and keep configuration paths for BIOS, VMU, and related files.
Ten save-state slots, RetroAchievements, custom high-definition texture packs, and controller or wheel support give longer sessions more structure than a bare launcher. These options are especially useful for players who revisit several games, switch between touch and physical controls, or want to preserve a tuned setup instead of rebuilding it for every title.
