Search, Labels, and Archive
Search, labels, and archiving give scrawl a straightforward way to manage a growing collection. The Search area provides a dedicated field for finding notes, while Labels lets you add categories that make recurring topics easier to group. If an entry no longer belongs in the active Notes view, Archive offers a separate place to keep it without deleting the content.
Notes can be browsed in list or grid view, so you can choose a compact scan or a more visual arrangement. This works well for separating temporary reminders from reference material, revisiting older writing, and keeping the main workspace calm. The result is a small set of controls that supports retrieval and organization without requiring a complex folder system.
Local and Nextcloud Backup
scrawl treats backup as part of note ownership rather than an afterthought. Backup & Restore explains that notes can be saved to the device and later restored after reinstalling the app. A visible local path gives the process a concrete destination, while separate Backup and Restore actions make the direction of the transfer clear.
For people who already use Nextcloud, the same area can connect to a personal provider and store a backup online. The Nextcloud Login entry is kept separate from local note creation, so the app can remain useful for on-device writing while cloud storage is an optional part of the workflow. This is practical for moving notes between installations or keeping an extra copy.
App Lock and Personal Settings
App Lock adds a privacy step for notes that should not be immediately visible to anyone holding the phone. The More menu exposes the lock entry alongside the app's other management tools, and the lock can use the device's available biometric or system security options. It is a local access-control feature for the app, not a separate online account.
Personalization stays lightweight: App Theme can follow the system setting, while the About area provides project information without taking over the main writing flow.
