Access Textbooks from My Shelf
RedShelf eReader brings textbooks linked to an existing RedShelf account into a mobile reading shelf. Students can open assigned or purchased titles, return to the book they were reading, and navigate by chapter, page, bookmark, or search instead of carrying separate print copies. The Android app begins with an email-based sign-in, so access follows the learner's established RedShelf credentials and available books.
My Shelf keeps the library organized around each account, while Reading Now offers a direct route back to the latest title and saved position. This makes the app most useful for students whose school, bookstore, or Inclusive Access program already provides RedShelf materials.
Highlight, Annotate, and Cite Passages
Reading tools let students turn textbook pages into working study material. Selecting text can open choices for highlighting in different colors, adding a note, defining a term, copying permitted content, creating a citation, or starting read-aloud from that location. Search, page controls, zoom, fit-to-screen, and bookmarks help readers move through dense chapters without losing context.
Notes and highlights remain grouped with the relevant book, so a reader can revisit important sections instead of scanning every page again. Citation support can format book details for reuse in coursework, while publisher rules may limit how much text can be copied from a particular title.
Build Flashcards and Study Guides
RedShelf extends reading into review by turning selected passages into flashcards and collecting annotations in study tools. Students can organize cards into decks, review the front and back, and use confidence colors to mark how well they know the material. Notes and highlights can also feed a study guide, creating a focused path through concepts that deserve another look before a quiz or exam.
Reading activity and goal tools add structure for learners who want to monitor progress over time. Because notes, highlights, and related study work sync with the RedShelf account, the same preparation can continue across supported phones, tablets, and desktop sessions.
Download Supported Books for Offline Reading
Some RedShelf titles can be downloaded in the mobile app for reading when a connection is unavailable. Download icons on My Shelf indicate whether a publisher permits offline access and whether a book is already stored on the device. Readers should complete the download before going offline and keep enough storage free for the full title.
Offline availability depends on each publisher, and certain online tools may be unavailable until the device reconnects. Highlights, notes, bookmarks, and flashcards created while offline can sync later, making the feature practical for commutes, travel, or study spaces with unreliable Wi-Fi. Downloaded content can also be removed from the title menu when space is needed.
