Plan Journeys with Routes, Times, and Fares
Metlink puts the main trip-planning task behind a clear Start and End flow. Search for a stop or service, enter where you are leaving from and where you want to go, then compare suggested journeys with travel times and fares before setting out.
The Plan area works alongside the map and service information, so you can move from a route choice to the relevant stop or departure details without losing the wider network view. Favourite locations can also appear as suggestions for people who use the same journey regularly, making everyday commuting easier to repeat. This is useful for commuters, visitors, and anyone checking a connection across the region.
Live Maps, Stops, and Vehicle Tracking
The map gives Metlink a practical way to understand the network around you. Stop markers, a search bar, and map controls help you find nearby services, open stop departures, and check extra location details such as facilities or points of interest.
For a more immediate view, live tracking can show vehicles for a selected route on the map and in a list. Opening a vehicle reveals trip details and estimated arrival times at later stops, which helps commuters judge whether to wait, walk to another stop, or adjust their connection. That makes the app useful when departure boards alone do not explain the next connection.
Timetables, Alerts, and MyMetlink Routines
The Timetables area organizes services into useful groups such as Bus, Train, School, and Ferry & Cable Car. Search by service or suburb, open a route, and use the star controls to keep frequently needed timetables or stops within reach.
Alerts add a second layer for changing plans. Today and Upcoming views separate immediate notices from later changes, while individual cards can explain cancellations, closed stops, affected routes, and expected impacts. MyMetlink adds saved favourites and notification preferences for users who want a more personalized daily routine. The layout keeps recurring checks visible without making users rebuild the same transport routine each time.
Network News and Everyday Travel Decisions
Metlink is designed for the small decisions that shape a public transport trip, from checking a departure before leaving home to comparing a route when a service changes. Main navigation keeps Map, Plan, Favourites, Timetables, and Alerts close together instead of hiding each task in a separate tool.
The app also links transport news and practical information from its menu, while map features can surface points of interest and Snapper locations. That combination suits regular commuters, students, and visitors who need Greater Wellington bus, train, ferry, or cable-car information in one place. It is especially practical before work, class, appointments, or a day exploring the region.
