With location available, CellMapper can associate cellular readings with a route and turn them into signal trails and tower-location data for its crowd-sourced maps. Background access lets recording continue while the phone moves, so a drive or walk can capture changing cells without keeping every detail on screen.
The map can show coverage, tower sectors, bands, the phone's position, and the connection between the device and a serving site. Users can also group towers, hide low-accuracy sites, or define geofenced exclusion areas when they want cleaner views or prefer not to record particular locations.
Upload Measurements Live or Later
CellMapper supports several ways to send collected measurements. Instant Upload can transfer cell and tower data while recording, Wi-Fi Auto Upload can wait for a wireless connection, and Upload & Statistics lets users submit saved points later. These choices help balance timely map updates against mobile-data use and unreliable coverage on long drives.
An account is optional for basic mapping, but signing in can attach contributions to a profile and unlock contribution tracking or certain tower-management tasks. The app's visible upload and account indicators make it easier to see whether data transfer or login is active before starting a longer route.
Tune Maps, Dual SIM, and CSV Output
Advanced settings let users adapt CellMapper to different phones and fieldwork habits. The app can support dual-SIM devices, show cell IDs in hexadecimal form, estimate frequency bands when direct readings are unavailable, and filter recording by network generation. Map controls can group towers or focus the display on cells with frequency data.
For users who want a local record, optional CSV output saves signal points for later review or transfer to a computer. Recording intervals, cell-change vibration, start-at-boot behavior, and unit preferences provide additional control for each session, making CellMapper suitable for short diagnostic checks as well as repeated coverage-mapping sessions.
