Visitor Registration and Facility Approval
HomeWAV starts with a visitor account that connects a user to a participating correctional facility and an incarcerated contact. New visitors enter personal and login information, verify their identity, choose the facility, select the person they want to contact, and state the relationship. This setup keeps communication access tied to an identifiable visitor rather than an open public profile.
Registration also requires a clear profile photo and an image of a government-issued photo ID. The corrections facility reviews the submitted account before communication tools become available. Returning visitors can sign in with a username and password, while people who forget their credentials can use the recovery option from the login screen.
Inmate-Initiated Video and Voice Calls
Approved visitors can use HomeWAV for remote video visits and voice calls when the selected facility supports those services. The incarcerated contact normally initiates the remote call after seeing that the visitor is online, so users should keep the app open when they expect a connection. Remote video and phone calls do not use the same advance scheduling flow as on-site visits.
A stable internet connection is important because live audio and video depend on network quality. Wi-Fi and a headset can make conversations easier to hear and follow. Availability, calling rates, permitted hours, and supported call types vary by facility, so the contact roster and facility rules shape the experience for each visitor.
Messages and Availability Notifications
HomeWAV gives families and friends another way to maintain contact through messaging when the facility enables it. Messages are useful for shorter updates that do not require both people to be ready for a live call. The communication options may include text or media features depending on the facility, while the visitor account keeps conversations associated with an approved incarcerated contact.
Availability alerts help users know when their loved one has logged into a HomeWAV kiosk and may be able to start a call. Visitors can receive a notification and respond to an incoming request in a familiar call-style flow. Notification access should remain enabled if timely alerts are important, although the exact services available still depend on the participating facility.
Communication Funds and Visit Scheduling
Account tools let approved visitors view available communication funds, add money, transfer eligible balances, and manage saved payment information. HomeWAV separates visitor communication funds from the incarcerated person's general fund, so users should confirm the destination before adding money. Call costs vary by facility, and charges are based on the communication minutes used rather than a single universal rate.
The app can also schedule eligible on-site or lobby visits through participating facilities. This reservation flow is different from remote video or voice calls, which are generally initiated by the incarcerated contact without advance booking. Together, funds, facility selection, contact management, and visit scheduling give visitors a practical place to prepare for ongoing communication.
