Messages and Group Conversations
Messaging is LINE's central workflow, giving friends, families, classmates, and teams a familiar place for one-to-one or group conversations. Users can exchange text, photos, videos, voice messages, and other files, then see read status when a message has been opened. Group chats keep shared plans and everyday updates together, so the app works for quick check-ins as well as longer conversations.
The Home area helps users reach friends, birthdays, and connected services, while chat lists keep recent conversations close at hand. Keep Memo adds a private chat that only its owner can see, making it useful for temporarily saving links, reminders, photos, videos, or files before returning to them later.
Voice and Video Calls
LINE extends chat into one-to-one and group voice or video calls, letting users move from messages to a live conversation without switching services. Calls use an internet connection, and video sessions include controls for the microphone, camera, backgrounds, filters, and other visual effects. This makes the app useful for personal catch-ups, remote coordination, or group conversations when typing is too slow.
A call can start from the chat header or a friend's profile, keeping the action close to the conversation that prompted it. The same account can also support calls across compatible phones, tablets, and computers, helping people stay reachable whether they are away from a desk or working on a larger screen.
Stickers, Emoji, and Interface Themes
LINE gives conversations a strong visual layer through stickers and emoji designed for reactions, greetings, jokes, and everyday replies. Users can browse the sticker shop for character sets and other designs, then place them directly into chats when words feel too formal or limited. This expressive catalog is one of the app's clearest differences from a basic text messenger.
Themes extend that customization to the interface itself, changing elements such as backgrounds and buttons. Users can keep the standard design, choose a free option, or use Coins for eligible paid themes. Together, stickers, emoji, and themes let frequent users shape both the tone of their messages and the look of the app they open each day.
Account Transfer and Multi-Device Access
LINE supports account transfer when users replace, reset, or lose access to a phone. On Android, a person with the previous device can use an easy transfer QR code, while other supported routes include a linked Google account or, in certain regions, a phone number. Preparing account details and a chat backup before moving helps reduce the risk of losing history.
The setup flow also distinguishes between a main device and a supported sub device. A main-device transfer signs the account out elsewhere, while a sub device can remain linked for continued access. This choice is useful for people who alternate between a phone, tablet, computer, or Wear OS device and want their communication tools available in more than one setting.
