The interactive radar gives users a map-based view of weather around Grand Rapids, West Michigan, and other selected areas. Past and Future controls help compare recent movement with the projected direction of precipitation, while a timeline provides a clear way to move through radar frames. This makes the map useful for checking a storm before commuting, driving, or starting an outdoor activity.
Radar, 24h Future, and Clouds & Radar options provide different ways to study changing conditions. Map layers, zoom controls, and current-location awareness help users focus on a neighborhood or expand the view across the region. Current temperature, feels-like conditions, humidity, dew point, wind, and nearby forecast tiles keep essential context beside the map.
Plan with Daily and Hourly Forecasts
Daily and Hourly tabs turn the app into a practical planning tool beyond the live radar. The daily view lists conditions, high and low temperatures, and precipitation chances across several days, helping users compare a clear afternoon with a wetter or stormier period later in the week. Expanded details can also show sunrise, sunset, moon phase, and UV information.
The hourly view breaks the next day into individual time slots with temperature, sky conditions, and wind direction or speed. That detail is helpful when choosing a departure time, scheduling yard work, or deciding when an outdoor event is least likely to be interrupted. Forecasts and current conditions refresh regularly, so users can return as plans or weather patterns change.
Save Locations and Receive Weather Alerts
Location tools let users follow weather for their current position and keep favorite places ready for later checks. This is useful for comparing conditions at home, work, school, or a travel destination without repeatedly searching for the same city. Integrated GPS can center the forecast and radar around the user's position when location access is granted.
The app also supports severe-weather information from the National Weather Service and optional push alerts. Users can manage location and notification access through Android settings, keeping those features aligned with their preferences. Combining saved places with timely alerts makes the app useful for families, commuters, and anyone who wants focused notice when hazardous weather may affect a familiar area.
Share Local Weather Photos and Video
The Submit area gives users a direct way to contribute weather photos or video to WZZM 13. Separate actions are available for taking a new photo, recording a new video, or selecting an existing item from the gallery. This turns the app from a forecast viewer into a simple channel for sharing notable local conditions with the station.
The feature is most relevant during snow, storms, flooding, dramatic cloud formations, or other visible events around West Michigan. Camera or media access may be requested only when a user chooses a related action, so people who only want forecasts can stay with radar and outlook screens. Contributors should avoid unsafe conditions and share media only when they have permission to do so.
