Create or Import a Self-Custody Wallet
ShapeShift starts with two clear paths: create a new wallet or add one that already exists. A new wallet keeps the setup focused on self-custody, while the import flow supports a Secret Recovery Phrase or a keystore file. This makes the app useful when moving an existing portfolio to a new Android device without opening a separate custodial account.
The wallet menu separates creation from import, so users can choose the method that matches the backup they hold. Keystore import includes file selection and a password field, while recovery-phrase import expects a standard 12-word phrase. These distinct routes give returning wallet users a practical way to restore access and let newcomers begin with a fresh wallet.
Organize Multiple and Hardware Wallets
Users with more than one wallet can open the All Wallets panel, search by name, and switch between list and grid views. ShapeShift presents saved wallets as a manageable collection instead of forcing every portfolio into a single account. That organization is useful for separating long-term holdings, active trading funds, or different on-chain identities.
The wallet selector also includes dedicated Ledger and Trezor entries alongside ShapeShift wallets. Hardware-wallet support gives users another way to connect assets while keeping signing keys on a separate device. A visible count of compatible wallet options and a search control make the selector easier to navigate when the list becomes large.
Swap Assets Across Multiple Chains
ShapeShift brings token swaps and portfolio access into the same mobile experience. Users can work with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, AVAX, USDC, and other supported assets across more than 15 chains, reducing the need to jump among separate wallet apps for every network. Route selection can compare liquidity from services such as Matcha, THORChain, Jupiter, and CoWSwap.
The trading workflow also supports controls for gas and slippage when a route makes those options available. This gives experienced users more say over execution while keeping basic asset exchanges accessible from a phone. Network support, token availability, and quoted routes can change, so users can review the destination asset and transaction details before confirming a swap.
Explore DeFi and Flexible Trading Tools
Beyond basic swaps, ShapeShift includes tools for users who want to manage more of their on-chain activity from one interface. Limit orders, multiple accounts, and watch-only mode can support different portfolio routines, from monitoring an address to planning a trade without moving assets immediately. These options give the app a broader role than a simple send-and-receive wallet.
Supported DeFi routes can also provide access to staking, liquidity, and yield opportunities, while integrated fiat on- and off-ramps help connect crypto activity with local payment services where available. Each service can have its own asset, region, identity, fee, and network requirements, so the app works best for users who review the terms and transaction preview for each route.
