About MuniMobile APK

MuniMobile is a San Francisco transit planning and mobile ticketing app for riders moving around the Bay Area. Use it to compare routes across buses, light rail, rail, cable cars, ferries, and connecting services, then check nearby departures or build a trip from a chosen start and destination. The Home screen keeps Buy Tickets, Use Tickets, and Trip Planner within reach, while location tools help find nearby stops. Account and payment options support mobile fares and passes, making everyday commutes and visitor itineraries easier to organize.

Features & use cases

Route Planning Across Bay Area Services

MuniMobile brings a route-planning workflow to the Muni network and its connected services. The onboarding screen lets riders keep Light Rail, BART, Rail, Bus, Ferry, Historic Streetcar, and Cable Car in the service mix, so a trip can be shaped around more than one mode. On Home, Trip Planner is a direct entry beside Buy Tickets and Use Tickets, making it easy to move from a quick arrival check to a full itinerary.

Trip Planner starts with separate Select start and Select destination fields, plus a Depart now control and a prominent Search button. Riders can use the map, Favorites, and Trips tabs to keep planning choices organized. This suits visitors learning San Francisco routes as well as locals checking a commute.

Nearby Departures and Location-Aware Stops

Home includes a Nearby departures panel for a quick look at services around the rider, while the start-selection view offers Current location and Stops nearby shortcuts. Location access can make these choices faster when the rider wants the closest stop instead of typing an address.

The same workflow remains flexible for planned journeys. A rider can choose a starting place manually, adjust the transport mix in the Trip Planner settings, and compare options before searching. This is useful when arriving at an unfamiliar station, meeting someone at a stop, or checking whether a nearby bus, rail line, or cable car is the most practical connection.

Tickets, Passes, and Phone-Based Fare Use

Buy Tickets and Use Tickets appear as separate Home cards, reflecting the app's two-step fare workflow. Riders can choose a fare or pass, pay through supported methods, and keep tickets on the phone until they are ready to board. Muni guidance says a ticket should be activated before a subway fare gate, before boarding a surface vehicle, or once aboard a cable car; an active ticket shows the usable fare state.

MuniMobile supports group purchases from one phone and lets riders activate stored tickets without a network connection, although a connection is needed to purchase. The current Trip Planner notice also explains that single-ride tickets will no longer be sold in the app from September 1, 2026, while other fare products continue.

Planning Preferences for Real-World Journeys

Trip Planner is built for practical decisions rather than a single fixed route. The gear control opens preferences for transport modes, transfer number and duration, accessibility options, walking distance to stops, walking speed, cycling speed, and bike allowance. Riders can tune the results to a short walk, fewer transfers, or a more accessible journey before running Search.

The map, Favorites, and Trips tabs give different ways to return to a plan, while nearby-stop shortcuts help when a journey begins away from a saved address. That combination makes MuniMobile useful for daily commuters, visitors, and anyone coordinating a Bay Area trip where timing and transfer choices matter.
