From Home, the central scan button starts the workflow, while guided edge detection helps frame a page before it becomes part of a PDF. You can also choose an image from the gallery and adjust the detected document area to keep the portion that matters.
After capture, review the result, add pages, and arrange them before saving. This multipage flow suits invoices, forms, class notes, and small document bundles that should remain together. A preview step lets you correct framing or page order before creating an organized PDF, with capture, review, save, and library access close at hand.
Offline OCR and Searchable Text
Offline English OCR adds searchable text to saved scans. When a document contains typed English, FreeScan can recognize the words while saving, so the library can find a scan by its contents instead of relying only on a filename. This suits receipts, reference notes, and forms that need to be located again. Recognition stays with the document, which helps users who prefer not to send a page to an external OCR service.
Search works alongside the PDF, so the visual document remains available for reading, sharing, or printing. The Home screen offers “Search documents and text,” and Files provides a focused place to review saved material. Students, households, and small offices can retrieve everyday paperwork without scanning folders manually.
Local File Library and Trash Controls
Files gives FreeScan a management layer after scanning. View all files, filter by modification, or switch to a grid layout while browsing a growing collection. Rename documents, mark favorites, and search the library when a receipt or form is needed later. These controls keep recurring paperwork organized instead of leaving it in a generic downloads folder.
Trash offers a reversible place for unwanted documents. Items can be restored before the 30-day retention period ends, while Settings includes Trash retention and “Delete all local documents” for deliberate cleanup. Local-first handling keeps scans, recognized text, and exported PDFs on the device unless you choose to share, print, or save them elsewhere.
Sharing, Printing, and Privacy Choices
FreeScan fits practical document work such as digitizing a receipt after shopping, keeping forms together for a household task, or creating a searchable PDF from notes. When a document is ready, share it through compatible Android apps or send it to an available printing service. The workflow moves paper toward an organized PDF without requiring a separate desktop step.
Settings offers System, Light, and Dark appearance choices, privacy information, and cleanup controls. The app uses local-first storage and processing and does not require an account. It suits occasional paperwork as well as steady streams of receipts, IDs, notes, or forms, especially when offline English OCR matters more than a broad cloud suite.
