Display Eligible Fishing and Hunting Licenses
After linking a CDFW customer record, the app brings eligible sport fishing and hunting credentials into one mobile view. Users can open My Active Licenses from the welcome area, choose a license or validation, and present the current item from the phone instead of searching through paper records. Supported examples include annual and short-term fishing licenses, selected validations, annual hunting licenses, and other eligible permits; availability depends on the item type and CDFW rules.
The display workflow is built for practical field preparation. Refreshing while connected retrieves eligible items for the selected customer record, while Switch Customer lets one account move between associated records. Report-card and tag purchase proof may be visible, but physical report cards or tags remain necessary where regulations require them.
Customer Records and Mobile Account Setup
Account creation starts on the welcome screen with Sign In or Create Account. A new mobile user enters an email address, accepts the User Acknowledgement, receives a validation code, and creates a password before associating a primary CDFW customer record. The mobile account is separate from the credentials used for the Online License Sales and Services website, so users should keep the two sign-in paths distinct.
Once the primary record is connected, Manage Customer Records allows up to five additional records, making six total for a household account. Users can switch between records, refresh each one, remove family records, or change the app password from Settings. The flow suits households that manage several licenses from one phone.
Regulations, Draw Results, and Outdoor Links
CDFW License is more than a digital wallet for active items. Its menus can open big game preference points and drawing applications/results, provide access to CDFW booklets, and connect to useful state services such as the Fish Planting Schedule and Online License Sales and Services. This gives anglers and hunters a single place to check information before deciding where or when to go.
Regulation booklets can be downloaded while connected and then opened from the app later, with options to view or clear stored documents. Users can also search for authorized license sales agents and follow a purchase link to the CDFW sales website; license checkout and auto-renewal remain web-based rather than in-app billing. This separation keeps the app focused on records and field reference.
Offline License Access for Field Trips
For a fishing or hunting trip, the app can keep recently refreshed licenses and downloaded regulation booklets available when cellular or Wi-Fi service is unavailable. Before leaving, users should refresh each associated customer record while online and confirm the required items are visible. This makes the phone useful in areas where a connection is unreliable, while still depending on battery, an intact screen, and the correct account data.
The app is best for California residents or visitors who already use CDFW records and want quick mobile access in the field. It is not a replacement for every physical document: report cards, tags, and other items that rules require in hand must remain with the user. That clear division helps prevent a convenient digital display from being mistaken for a universal permit.
