Use an Android Device as a Wireless Camera
Switcher Camera gives creators a simple way to reuse an Android phone or tablet as a wireless video source. Place the device where an extra angle is needed, open the app, and tap Share Camera to make it available to the main Switcher production. This turns a spare device into a practical view for a stage, product table, presenter, or audience.
The Android camera joins a larger production controlled from Switcher on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Because the companion app focuses on supplying a camera feed, the director can keep switching, recording, graphics, and streaming controls on the main production device while the Android device stays positioned on its shot.
Pair Through Share Camera and Wi-Fi
Connecting a camera follows a short local-network workflow. The Android device and the main Switcher device use the same Wi-Fi network; after Share Camera is selected, the Android device appears by name in the Inputs panel. Choosing that input completes the link and brings the camera feed into the source panel for the production.
A Waiting for connection screen keeps the pairing state easy to understand before the controller selects the device. This arrangement works well for small crews because one person can place the Android camera while another manages the main Switcher interface. It also makes it straightforward to disconnect, reposition, and reconnect a camera angle as a production changes.
Frame Shots with Camera Controls
Once connected, Switcher Camera provides controls that help frame the Android shot without treating the phone as a separate production console. Creators can switch between front and rear cameras for presenter-facing or outward-facing views. Zoom controls allow closer framing, while an on-screen live indicator helps the camera operator know when that angle is active in the program.
These controls are useful when the Android device is mounted away from the main director or placed where touching it would disturb the shot. The camera can stay focused on its assigned view while the main Switcher device selects angles alongside iPhones, iPads, Macs, NDI cameras, and webcams. The result is a cleaner division between capturing a view and directing the show.
Add Angles for Events and Demonstrations
The app is especially useful when one camera cannot cover the whole action. A wide view can show a venue or stage, while another Android device covers a speaker, demonstration, scoreboard, or close-up. Sports, worship services, classes, interviews, product streams, and live performances can all benefit from adding a viewpoint without moving the primary camera.
Switcher Camera also suits teams that already own several mobile devices and want to build a multicamera setup before investing in dedicated cameras. Each Android device serves as an input rather than the broadcast controller, so crews can expand their coverage one angle at a time. This keeps the workflow approachable for smaller productions while giving viewers more visual variety than a single static shot.
