Flight Search and Trip Booking
Southwest brings core trip planning into a single booking flow. Travelers can search low fares, choose flights, and branch into vacation, hotel, and rental-car options from the home screen, making the app useful for both a simple round trip and a broader getaway. The low fare calendar helps compare travel dates when price matters.
Flight and vacation booking sit beside car-rental and hotel-search shortcuts, so the next step stays easy to find. The app supports Southwest destinations and can keep planning focused on dates, routes, passengers, and the travel product needed, reducing the need to jump between unrelated services during early trip planning.
Check-In and Mobile Boarding Passes
The My Trips area handles the main tasks that happen after a reservation is made. Travelers can look up a booking, check in beginning 24 hours before departure when eligible, review flight status, and reach a digital boarding pass without rebuilding the trip from scratch. A saved pass can also be added to Google Wallet for faster access at security and the gate.
Guest access keeps reservation lookup and check-in available without forcing a rewards account at launch. Signing in adds personalized trips and passenger details, while flight number, gate, boarding information, and travel alerts help turn the app into a practical day-of-travel companion.
Reservations, Bags, and Seat Options
Managing an existing itinerary goes beyond displaying a confirmation number. The app includes routes to change or cancel eligible flights, manage flights and vacation reservations, track checked bags, review seat options where available, and add Priority Boarding or other eligible travel extras. These tools are grouped around My Trips and the More menu for quick return visits.
A traveler can also check flight status, open a route map, use the low fare calendar, or review upgrade choices from the travel-tools list. Availability depends on the itinerary and fare, but placing these controls together makes common adjustments easier before departure and during an active trip.
Rapid Rewards, Offers, and Travel Alerts
Rapid Rewards members can sign in to connect trips with their loyalty profile, view points-related information, and earn or redeem points on qualifying Southwest purchases. New members can enroll from the login area, while guest access remains available for travelers who only need booking or status tools. The Offers tab surfaces fare sales and partner promotions in the same navigation.
Notifications can provide check-in reminders, boarding alerts, gate changes, sales, and other day-of-travel updates. Travelers can adjust notification preferences instead of treating every alert the same, and the app also provides access to help and trip-related shortcuts, giving frequent Southwest customers a useful home for both loyalty activity and time-sensitive travel information.
