Before scanning, choose the memory area and the file types that matter. The recovery flow is useful when you are trying to rescue photos or videos after accidental deletion, or when you want to look through a memory card without moving it to a computer. On a non-rooted phone, results can be limited, but the Basic Scan still provides a practical first step for common recovery tasks.
Photo, Video, and File Search
DiskDigger organizes recovery around the kind of data you want to find, with visible actions for lost photos, lost videos, and other files. That focus makes the first decision easy: start with the media category that matches the missing item, then let the app build a list of possible results instead of searching through folders manually.
The Android interface also exposes an Other Files beta path, while the broader product description covers documents and non-media recovery. Users who only need a picture can stay with a focused photo search; someone checking a more complicated loss can explore additional file types when the device and app version support them. This flexible starting point suits both quick personal recovery and more deliberate storage checks.
Preview, Filters, and Recovery Choices
Once a scan produces candidates, DiskDigger lets users work through the results rather than restoring everything blindly. Select individual files with checkboxes, open previews where available, and use the options control to narrow results by file type or minimum size. Cleanup and Free-Space Control
Recovery is not the only job on the main screen. DiskDigger includes Cleanup for reviewing unwanted items and a Wipe Free Space action for people who want deleted material to become harder to recover from the device. The interface makes the distinction visible: scanning looks for possible files, while cleanup and wiping change what remains available in storage.
These tools are most useful after a user has finished checking the results and wants to remove items or reduce traces left in free space. Wipe Free Space can consume available storage temporarily and should be used sparingly, because overwriting free space creates extra wear on flash memory. That makes the feature valuable for a deliberate cleanup task, not a routine button to press after every scan.
