Build a Nation Across Europe, India, and the Americas
Total War: EMPIRE starts as a campaign of national growth rather than a series of isolated skirmishes. Choose one of eleven factions, develop a military and economic power, and guide its expansion across a world map linking Europe, India, and the Americas. Regions, towns, ports, and overseas possessions give the map a practical rhythm as your priorities change.
Each turn connects movement, construction, recruitment, public order, and diplomacy, so a short decision can shape several future turns. A maritime power may protect trade routes and overseas settlements, while a land-focused rival can secure borders first and build momentum through carefully chosen wars. The appeal comes from making those choices yourself and seeing a small foothold become a wider empire.
Direct Command in Gunpowder Battles
When diplomacy gives way to war, the campaign hands control to real-time 3D battles built around gunpowder tactics. Position infantry, cavalry, artillery, and commanders, then use formations, terrain, timing, and concentrated fire to break an opposing army instead of relying on a single automatic result. Sieges and fortifications add another layer when an attack reaches a defended settlement.
The same command mindset extends to the sea. Fleets maneuver around wind direction and firing angles, and a well-timed broadside can decide whether a route stays open or an enemy loses its reach. Players who enjoy planning and reacting under pressure get distinct land and naval battlefields within the same grand campaign.
Diplomacy, Research, and Trade Routes
Empire building is not only about taking territory. Statecraft and subterfuge let you negotiate with rival powers, protect lucrative trade routes, and choose when cooperation is more useful than another front. Diplomatic choices help turn a fragile position into room for expansion, especially when several theatres compete for the same resources and each trade node supports a different strategic plan.
Research gives the campaign a second long-term track. Develop technologies that strengthen industrial growth and military capability, then align those gains with recruitment, construction, and economic priorities. The result is a strategy loop in which science, money, relationships, and force all reinforce one another over a long playthrough, giving patient players meaningful goals between major battles.
Touch Controls for Long Strategy Sessions
The Android edition is designed for deliberate play on a large map, but its controls are built for a touchscreen. Tap and hold to move forces, inspect information, and manage the campaign without needing a desktop interface; compatible mouse and keyboard controls provide another option for players who prefer precise commands.
Newcomers can start with a smaller objective, learn the map through advisor help, and save between major decisions rather than rushing every turn. Longer sessions suit players who enjoy planning several moves ahead, while custom battles and shorter tactical encounters offer a focused way to practise formations, artillery, and naval positioning.
