Pixelfed 1.8.0 presents a photo-first social space for browsing a chronological feed, sharing individual images or albums, and keeping conversations close to the posts that inspire them. Mobile users can move between visual discovery, filters, temporary Stories, likes, threaded comments, and direct messages, while the federated model connects communities across participating servers. Privacy tools add practical control for follower-only or unlisted posts, follower approval, muted or blocked accounts, comment settings, and DM limits. It suits photographers, casual sharers, and viewers who prefer a less algorithm-led way to explore visual work. This package targets Android 7.0 and newer and opens into a Login or Sign Up flow, where users can choose pixelfed.social or enter another instance.
Chronological Photo Discovery
Browse a chronological feed of photography and visual updates, follow accounts across connected communities, and keep discovery centered on the images themselves. The federated model can connect Pixelfed activity with remote Pixelfed, Mastodon, and Akkoma profiles through ActivityPub.
Albums, Filters, and Stories
Share a single photo or group several images into an album, then use filters or a short-lived Story for different kinds of publishing. These choices make room for a carefully arranged set of photos as well as a quick moment captured from a phone.
Privacy and Conversation Controls
Likes, threaded comments, and Direct Messages turn photo browsing into conversation. Follower-only or unlisted posts, follower approval, mute, block, reporting, comment controls, and DM limits help shape a more deliberate community experience.
