Natural Selection on a Moving Road
Evolution Simulator turns natural selection into a hands-on road experiment. Start a population of randomly generated car-like creatures and let them attempt the same route. A vehicle may keep moving, become stuck, tip over, or fall from the road; its distance becomes a useful comparison point when the generation ends. The live scene keeps generation count, cars alive, and distance visible while the group develops.
When every car has failed, the next generation is created from mixed genomes. Better-performing cars contribute more offspring, and mutations introduce new shapes and wheel arrangements. The loop gives each run a clear objective: follow how repeated selection gradually produces a vehicle that can travel farther, then try a new setup to see how the result changes.
Shape-Building Through Genomes
Every simulated car is described by a genome built from numeric triads. The opening values define the number of edges, the number of wheels, and maximum width; further values describe edge placement and wheel characteristics. That structure makes each vehicle more than a visual variation: it gives the simulation a simple model for passing traits between generations.
The appeal is in watching awkward designs gradually become more capable. A wide body, unusual wheel layout, or different edge arrangement can change how a car handles the road. Because offspring combine parental genomes and then mutate at a chosen probability, players can treat each run as a compact experiment in inheritance, variation, and adaptation rather than a conventional race.
Road Conditions and Evolution Controls
Settings divide the experiment into evolution, world, and genome groups, so you can change the rules instead of only replaying the same run. Evolution options cover the population size and mutation probability, while world controls shape the road and gravity. Genome limits let you control the maximum number of edges, wheel count, and vehicle width available to new designs.
The 1.5 update adds more ways to tune a run: road segments can use different friction coefficients, friction ranges can be adjusted, and roughness or friction can change gradually with distance. Engine power and vehicle density are also configurable. These controls make short sessions useful for comparing how environment and body design influence progress.
Statistics, Saved Cars, and Custom Runs
The front menu keeps the main actions clear: Start begins a new simulation, Load brings saved vehicles or configurations back into play, Settings opens the experiment controls, and Information explains the project. During a run, reset, save, statistics, pause, and time controls help you manage the live scene without leaving the simulation.
The Statistics area follows natural-selection progress from the first generation to the current one, giving curious players a way to study distance and development instead of relying only on the final vehicle. Version 1.5 also supports launching saved cars on the road, crossing saved cars, and managing custom configurations, which makes comparisons easier for classroom-style exploration or repeated personal experiments.
